Speed Dating

Speed dating is a rapid concept validation method, designed to assess the appeal of several product concepts. We decided to conduct our speed dating at the mall, with men who were waiting around fitting rooms. We narrowed our concepts down to six choices, and sketched descriptive storyboards for them, to express the concepts.

We sat down with nine men in the mall, and walked them through our concepts, and listened to their feedback.

The following are the six ideas that we tested in our speed dating process.

Game Show

People waiting in malls can play various gameshows with other people waiting in other malls.

Drawing on People

This concept is intended to enhance the people-watching behavior that people in malls already do. Users watch a live feed of people in their mall, and can drag funny items on to people as they walk around. Other users in other kiosks can also participate.

Recommendations

Users can tell the kiosk how long they expect to be waiting, and the kiosk suggests activities that the user can do in that time, such as getting a cup of coffee or checking out another store.

Photo manipulation

Users can take a photo of themselves, and then manipulate it on screen. Users can then add their image into a progressive comic story, featuring themself and other people waiting in the mall.

Livestock Game

Users watch a live feed of people walking in the mall. Users try to herd virtual livestock into specific stores by attaching animals to people walking through the mall.

Balcony Game

Users can use a kiosk that overlooks the bottom floor of the mall. The floor below is a giant screen. Users can fill virtual torpedos with flowers or teddy bears, and shoot them at people below.
