Ideation

We began brainstorming ideas for our project. Our ideas focused on the major themes that came out of our research, and we thought about ways to entertain people while still maintaining abandonability, supporting people watching, partial distractions, and social interaction.

We returned to the mall again, to brainstorm more ideas in the actual space, to see if that would inspire additional ideas. This yielded some really interesting ideas. One example is a concept where a user stands at a kiosk on the second floor of the mall, overlooking a common area below. The floor below could be a giant display, and objects displayed on the floor could interact with people walking by. The user could interact both with the floor and the people below. This is an idea that we could not have had except for being in the space.

Being in the space also allowed us to consider various form-factors for our kiosk, being able to envision how they might look and behave in the space.

We came up with 15 ideas, several which could be fleshed out in multiple ways. We sketched up the top nine ideas, and we went to our classmates to get their feedback about our designs. From their feedback, we were able to tweak some ideas, combine other ideas, and throw away the least appealing concepts.
