Onsite Interviews

Goals

To continue to better understand people at the Strip District, we also conducted interviews with people onsite. Various types of people were interviewed, of different ages, gender, ethnicity, and group they were with (family, friends, couples).

Results

We asked people to explain to us exactly what they were doing at the strip, where they were going and why. We also asked them to share some experiences they've had while at the Strip and what they like most and least about it. Additional trends emerged:

Browsing

Many interviewees confirmed our observations that people love to browse. People stated that it's great they can walk up and down the streets on a nice day perusing for items.

Specific Purchases

Going to the Strip to buy specific items not widely available was also common. People liked to come to the Strip to buy items such as Greek spices, specialty meats, dried flowers, and fudge.

Diversity

Many people commented on the diversity of what the Strip has to offer. There are many types of places to eat, such as Italian, Greek, Chinese and Mediterranean. There are also unique stores and vendors, such as the popcorn factory and Fudgie Wudgie's, and a variety of live street music.

Out of Town Trips

Some of the people we interviewed happened to be non-Pittsburgh residents. One couple came from West Virginia and another from Ohio. A class of high school students came as well from Ohio. Based on this, it appears that the Strip can also serve as a one day get-away.
