04 Sensors

Sensors have been used in three situations in our design:

1) Spherical Motion Camera (LadyBug) to detect waving of ticket at the big display

2) Scanners or visual sensors at various locations at the Airport to track bags and estimate their time of arrival. We brainstormed several options for implementing this. It could be an ordinary bar code scanner which would require bags to be in a fixed orientation while being scanned or more sophisticated cameras to recognise visual tags on the bags. Going a step further, we thought of implementing infra-red sensors which could detect retro-reflective paint (a sticker on the bags).

The diagram below shows the location based sensing of bags as they are transported from the plane to the carousel.
