Concept Validation

Speed dating with peers

After refining a number of ideas, we next used a method called "speed dating." The concept is similar to real life speed dating, except in this case a large number of ideas are shown to a large number of people and feedback is quickly gathered by talking through the storyboards of ideas.

For the first part of our speeddating, we spoke to our peers. Each of our team members had the chance to speak to seven other group members and "pitch" our ideas. We presented them rapidly, and then asked our peers for their feedback.

After each of us had the chance to pitch to our peers, we met to "debrief." Our findings were quite similar and we were able to narrow our ideas down to around 4-6 that seemed promising.

Promising ideas

Concert - generally well liked Musical Spots (chairs) - very well accepted
Moodbar - good general feedback but many felt that they shouldn't have to wait all day to see a party. engagement - people liked the idea of the fountain engaging them in play
Duck duck goose - well received. People generaly liked the idea of games. Direct Draw - very well accepted, people liked the idea of immediate feedback in controlling the fountain.

Not so promising ideas

Playful splash - This made nearly everyone laugh, but no one wanted the joke to be on them. Recognizing regulars - neutral with concerns about privacy
Stim-response draw - not as well liked as other draw ideas drunk - this got a lot of laughs, followed by concerns about promoting alcholholism or people getting hurt from falling. Darn, this seemd like fun.
Bored Fountain - feedback was generally neutral on this one. Community update - it was felt that this might be too disturbing to others in such a public space.
Weather reflection - Feelings were generally neutral, also - how did the kiosk fit in? (it didn't) Directions - people generally felt that the water would be too inaccurate.
