Overview

We wanted to design a kiosk that would fit into the surrounding environment and support public activities through various sensors and displays. Our first step was to brainstorm various ideas to decide where to place a kiosk and how to support activities in the public space. We started from identifying location, people, sensors, and activities for each idea to see if there is a good match among them.

Among several interesting ideas, we decided to build a kiosk on a dog park because we saw a lot of opportunities that sensors could provide for dog owners. Our initial ideas on dog park kiosk include visualizing energy level of dogs in the park and providing other important information to help dog owners.

To find out what user needs are, we did user research by observing and talking with people at the dog park. In addition to user research, we found similar solutions from competitive analysis.
