Project 4

Summary

The fountain in the SouthSide Works of Pittsburgh is often a gathering place for people waiting for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, waiting for a movie to start, or a place to rest after a long day of shopping. In the summer, kids play in the fountain and local bands perform evening concerts in the square.

Currently, however, this interaction is very passive. The fountain is a place people end up while waiting, rather than an active destination. Aquitechnics has designed a kiosk offering control of the fountain's actions, as well as uses environmental sensors to respond to people's direct interaction with the fountain itself. This will make the fountain more of a community attraction, encouraging people to gather and interact with each other as well as the fountain.
