01 Focus Setting

Choosing a Task and User Group

The first step was to choose a task and a user group from given options. After trying out possible matches, we agreed on mall walkers and finding a community meeting place as we found the highest need from it.

Brainstorming

It was followed by a bainstorming session on mall walkers. We addressed important issues about mall walkers, including general problems elderly people have and activities they might desire in a group. From the affinity diagraming (Figure 1), we found that elderly people join mall walking groups mainly because that they have health concerns and miss their friends and families.

Key Insights

Throughout the brainstorming and research, we tried to find their main concerns and desires. The key insights on mall walkers include:

  • They walk with different paces
  • They need companions while mall walking
  • They join and leave mall walking at different times
  • They enjoy meeting new people
